Homemade Fabric Softener

As part of my interest in DIY, I decided to make my own fabric conditioner. I always wanted our clothes to have this soft fluffy texture by hubby never liked the smell of store bought fabric softeners.I find making my own stuff a fun thing to do apart from it allows me to save huge amount of money.

If you were to Google homemade fabric conditioner, you come across with various recipes. Others call for numerous ingredients. What I opt to follow is the method that uses only three ingredients, --- warm water, white vinegar, and baking soda.

My Recipe is below:

3 cups white vinegar
4 cups warm water
1 cup baking soda
essential oil (optional)

Some recipes call for more baking soda but I opt following this recipe because baking soda never dissolves in water so you have to shake the solution every time you use it. With this recipe you just have to shake a little and you are off to go.

Homemade Fabric Softener Methods:

Add warm water to one cup of baking soda and stir. Add water slowly because baking soda has the tendency to fizz out of your container. After you have dissolved the water-baking soda mixture add 3 cups white vinegar slowly still to avoid fizzing and still until dissolved. You can now add an essential oil of your choice.

The essential oil is optional and I opt not to use any resulting my fabric conditioner to be odorless but still makes our clothes soft and fluffy. The vinegar and baking soda already do its job in removing detergent residue. I find it great for my kids who have skin allergies and hubby that hates the smell of commercially made fabric conditioners.
